The Foreign Ministry Dismissed a Diplomat Over an Unauthorized Visit to Minsk and Stated That No Agreements Had Been Reached

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed an employee over an unauthorized visit to Minsk and called on the Belarusian side to correct its statement regarding an alleged diplomatic meeting, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry emphasized that the meeting was not authorized by the Ukrainian government, no negotiations were agreed upon, and no agreements or commitments regarding further cooperation or diplomatic rapprochement with Belarus were reached. Accordingly, the visit cannot be presented as an official diplomatic initiative.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement regarding the Kyiv Treaty, confirming that two weeks of closed-door negotiations had taken place with Russia on the transfer of Crimea and Sevastopol to Ukraine’s full sovereignty. The ministry emphasized that the treaty provides for the termination of Russian jurisdiction over these territories, and that the negotiations themselves do not imply political rapprochement or entry into any alliance with Moscow.
